So recently I've been flying cheap t1 insured ships to try and get the rust off before I start flying my expensive nano ships again. This was all well and good but it's actually going to make my nano worse and not better.
So I'm back in the Gila!
For those of you who haven't flown a nano Gila before it's basically an Ishtar that goes 2kms with more shields, better resistances and 3 heavy missile launchers for extra dps. In all it's absolute win.
However been a nano drone boat you do have some major issues to overcome. Firstly you're main dps is drones and most of the time they are a long way away from your ship. This means you lose a LOT of drones when engaging and needing to run away. The new reconnect shortcut is very handy but most of the time your drones end up dead. The second major problem directly relates to this. If a frigate or something tackles you up close, your drones are miles away to come back and damage them. There are multiple ways to get around these problems but it's still something you don't have to deal with in other ships. Also on a side-note the new reconnect feature can be used to trick people ;).
So a couple of days ago I was thinking about getting back into my nano mindset. Whether I should start in a training vexor or jump straight back into a Gila was the question. The Gila won. Mainly because Rogerios on our corp killboard was storming ahead and I aren't going to just let that tit disappear into the distance!
I undock from our base and head into Syndicate to see what's going on. I find a few bc's hanging around and start to engage them. This then turns into a fleet and I hang around trying to pick off tackle as they come for me. Unfortunately they are all pretty mobile and I'm unable to split them up as much as I'd like. I had a few into low armor but couldn't risk getting close enough to point them without been tackled and killed myself. It resulted in no kills but was still an extremely fun skirmish and the guys in local seemed to think so too. I then called it a day and went to play another game for a while.
Later on the same day I go back out and head to the PC9 area of syndicate. I see a hurricane and fleet stabber on scan on my way to one of the back systems and it turns out they are on my out gate. I jump through to see what they have on the other side and it's clear. I've played around with these guys before so know that within 10 minutes they'll have 10+ people chasing me around. I jump back through and mwd off the gate to get some distance. I then drop my Bouncer II's and head back to the gate to point the cane. His shields are taking decent hits from my drones but not enough to kill him quickly. I switch over to the fleet stabber but my log is showing that my drones are missing too many hits on him. A frigate then joins the fray so I abandon my bouncers and drop some warriors. After killing the frigate I put out some valks and go to work on the fleet stabber. He's going down quite quickly. More ships are arriving on field and the counts up to something like 1v6. At this point I can't really get close enough to anything to point them so I'm just relying on my drones killing things before they warp out. Unfortunately this doesn't happen and they are all on the ball with warping out. Now there are 2/3 frigates on the field, 3/4bc's and 1/2 hacs. I warp off the field knowing that this is going to get real shakey real fast. I mention in corp that I saw a rapier on scan too and should probably stay away and cloak up.
Now like I said I know these guys will throw everything you have at them. But because I'd outran and outsmarted them so far my ego got the better of me. I scanned the gate to see a taranis, firetail and hurricane on gate. I decide to go back to rape the frigates then get out. They both burned at me so I overloaded my medium neut and dropped my valks. I originally burn away from them and then slingshot back targeting the taranis as my primary. His shields drop fast but I know his structure is his main defence. The taranis and firetail both have webs and points on me but I happen to know only the taranis has a scram. I try my best to take the taranis down but as I'm doing so a rapier appears on field and double webs me. At this point I know it's game over but reckon I may as well still try and kill the ranis before I die. Shortly after, the rest of their fleet arrive on grid and smash me into tiny pieces before I can kill the ranis. GF's are said in local and I quit eve in a bit of a downer and head to bed to watch Top Gear.
Today I'm thinking over the whole situation and realising what I did wrong. The main point was the fact that I knew they'd throw everything at me within 15minutes but didn't use my own sense to leave. The second was that I'd lost quite a lot of drones throughout the engagement so wasn't at full capability and again should have left the field a while back. All this comes down to me been rusty. Taking these mistakes into consideration for my next fights should see me back ontop!
Fraps of my death below! Goddamn why didn't I launch my other warriors ha!
